In 1963, Ford introduces the 427 cubic inch engine. The Low-Riser engine was available in both single 4-barrel form and dual-quad. The 427 engine 4-barrel equipped model was rated at 410 horsepower. On the other hand Ford's top of the line unit mounted 2 Holley 650 CFM 4 barrel carburetors on top of an aluminum intake manifold and carried a rating of 425 plus horsepower.
The Ford 427 was designed for NASCAR in 1963 and was also introduced and sold to the general public. The 427 engine earned the reputation of the most powerful and reliable performance engine ever built and dominated NASCAR in 1963 and 1964. On the option list, the 427 4 barrel V8 engine retailed at $514.70 and the 427 two, four barrel V8 engine retailed at $570.60
After much research through the internet and other sources, we found approximately 9,517 427 and 406 engines were produced in 1963. In 1964, 3,104, 427 engines were produced and in 1965 there were 320, 427 engines produced. According to Marti Auto Works, in 1966 only 231 Full Sized Fords were fortunate enough to receive the 427 the entire production year. In 1967 a mere 89 Full Size Fords received the 427 and by 1968 the engine had disappeared from the option list completely. However, it was still available over the parts counter for those who still desired to have one. The 5 production years of the 427 engine made up Fords Total Performance years. “Quality is always #1.” That has always been my philosophy, and what you can expect at Mike’s Classic Cars and Restorations.
I’m Mike Patak, owner of Mike’s Classic Cars. After 27 years of working in, and then owning one of the largest pork processing plants in the country, I know that quality sells itself. Whether we are talking about the meat business or the classic car business, people expect quality. That is why I constantly strive to provide the highest quality restorations and muscle cars.
I have been an avid car collector for over 35 years and
am proud that many of my cars are considered “the
best of the best.” My knowledge of Ford's, Mustang's and
Shelby's started in the mid 70’s when I worked at
a Ford dealership in Crete, NE. I have always been
a “Ford Guy” but over the years I have also
come to appreciate many other makes and models.
In January 2004 I sold my ownership in the pork plant and decided to fulfill a life long dream of owning a dealership with an emphasis on 60’s and 70’s muscle cars and restorations. I opened Mike’s Classic Cars in Blair, NE. This centralized midwest location enables me to be very competitive in shipping autos anywhere in the continental United States. If you need the car delivered, we have the capability to deliver your car ourselves in our enclosed trailer, or make arrangements for you with a commercial hauler.
My staff and I are here to help you find or restore “your piece
of auto nostalgia”. Please call us at (402)
533-4667 for restoration rates and schedule availability. Check our inventory often as it changes frequently. We look forward to earning your business
and not only meeting but exceeding your classic car quality expectations.
